18/04/20: The ability of 'PAYE Freelancers' to access help through the Covid-19 Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has gone through a few periods of uncertainty in recent weeks as details of the scheme, and guidance on its interpretation have changed at least four times since the 26th March 2020. Bectu is continuing to lobby government and campaign in this issue and a snapshot of YOUR understanding of how this scheme helps (or doesn't help) you is invaluable to that work. It should be mandatory for employers to furlough freelancers during the COVID-19 crisis if they can.

A new ‘PAYE Freelancers support scheme’ should be set up which uses historical PAYE tax records as the basis of any financial support during the COVID-19 pandemic

Employers taking more responsibility for the welfare of its workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic by committing to financially support individuals who fall between the gaps of the current schemes.

The industry commits to a New Deal for freelancers being discussed and agreed with Bectu for future engagements.

There must be financial provision made for those who are new to the industry
