"Banish the Covid blues, get fitter, meet nice people and raise £££s for local charities"?
This is only partly about 'Triathlon'; it's about coming together locally and having some fun over the next few months.
The events are easy: at least half of us will only be doing the run or bike or swim, not all three.
But everyone finds the experience amazing and we have taken the UK's largest team to beautiful Blenheim the past two years (197 adults and 40 children) and we want to do the same again!
EASY TO DO
The grounds of Blenheim Palace offer a beautiful venue to do a simple 5km run (or part walk if you need to) or 800m swim or 20km bike ride with two friends in a Relay team - OR you can combine the three to try out a personal mini-Triathlon (either a quarter or half Olympic distance).
You can go hell for leather for a personal best or as a first-timer just go for the fun, at whatever pace suits you.
FUN LOCAL TRAINING
Over the next few months there will also be lots of local fun training, e.g. Sunday mornings with the Queens Park Harriers, a 7 day Moberly Sports Centre pass, weekday morning group PT with Lizzie Barker or Mariangela, HIT with Dembo of Storm LDN, swim lessons with Moberly or Swimming Nature at the Maqam Centre, Richmond Park cycles with Jamie Baird PT, buddy runs, open water swimming at Hampstead Ponds, Parliament Hill Lido, Denham and Merchant Taylor Lakes, free strength, mobility and coaching advice with Maciej at Gym Locomotive as well as other local benefits.
Capturing the spirit we do this in is Gareth Heal's fun training video here:
https://vimeo.com/334959597SUPPORTING LOCAL CHARITIES
You don't have to fundraise but if you'd like to we will also help you raise a small amount (£100 or more) for local charities that could really use your support.
Such as refugee charities such as Salusbury World or REUK, or mental health charity Brent Centre for Young People or food groups such as Granville Community Kitchen, Sufra NW, Brent Foodbank, or another local charity or service such as Kensal Rise or Cricklewood Library - or your local school. You choose!
In 2021 our teams amazingly raised over £134,000 for 25 great local causes (see
bit.ly/kensalcharity)!
CHILDREN'S EVENTS
There will also be non-competitive children's duathlon (run and cycle) entertainment and plenty of picnic space.
