The Multicultural Resource Center's Peer Mentor Program (PMP) supports new students in their transition to Reed College. The transition to the academic and social environment of college can be a difficult one, particularly for students who are among the first in their families to attend college, students of color, and students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. PMP is designed to foster a sense of belonging and support among historically underrepresented student groups and introduce those in their first year at Reed to valuable campus resources and relationships.
Students who are accepted into PMP will:
- Move-in early to their assigned residence hall on August 22, 2024
- Participate in a four-day pre-Orientation experience August 22-26, 2024
- Receive a $200 textbook scholarship, to be applied to the Reed College Bookstore
- Be matched with a current Reed student who will serve as a Peer Mentor
- Participate in many community-building, resource-sharing, and off-campus activities
There is no registration or participation fee for PMP; all PMP activities are at no cost to participants, including the pre-Orientation experience. Participants benefit from an early introduction to Reed's campus resources, meaningful and supportive peer relationships, opportunities for involvement and leadership, and access to educational, cultural, and social events sponsored by the Multicultural Resource Center.
All incoming students are eligible to apply to PMP; we especially encourage applicants who are from historically underrepresented backgrounds. Priority application deadline is June 1, 2024. Applicants will be notified by June 30, 2024 via email if they've been accepted into the Peer Mentor Program. Due to limited space in the program, we unfortunately cannot guarantee acceptance.
