Joining the Decatur Farm to School (DF2S) Committee is a great way to get involved with the work of getting our students outside in their school garden and making the connection to what they are learning in the classroom and eating in the cafeteria and at home.

DF2S is currently recruiting highly motivated and enthusiastic volunteers to fill several roles on our committee. More details about each role are listed below.

More about what we do:
The Decatur Farm to School committee consists of Wylde Center and City Schools of Decatur staff and volunteers who meet monthly to support programs in the Decatur schools. The committee raises funds through dine outs, grant writing, merchandise sales and other efforts.

The funds the committee raises are used to
- support summer DF2S internships for high school students at farms, markets, and restaurants
- taste tests of different vegetables in the school cafeteria
- training for nutrition staff and equipment to better serve fresh produce
- hands-on programs for students in their classroom and gardens
- scholarships to send teachers and students to farm to school related programs
- mini-grants for schools

Meetings
- Decatur Farm to School meets 10 times per year August-May

- 4th Thursday of the month from 4-5pm. We alternate meeting on Zoom and at one of our beautiful school gardens around Decatur.

Commitment
- We are asking for our volunteers to commit from August 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024

- In addition to meetings, you may be asked to volunteer up to 4 hours per month on events, recruitment, or garden projects

Dine Out: Two volunteers to co-chair the spring and fall dine out. The co-chairs will recruit participating restaurants and oversee the details of the event. The full DF2S committee supports the event leading up to and on the day of the dine outs. The dine out is the primary way DF2S raises funds to support its activities in the Decatur schools.

Social Media Manager: One to two volunteers are needed to post on DF2S’s Facebook and Instagram accounts on a regular basis. Posts may include DF2S updates, upcoming events, related national news, work in the classroom and gardens and more.

DF2S Writers: One or more volunteers will write the copy for blog posts. Content may include what is happening at each school, intern essays, upcoming events.

Volunteer Management: One volunteer will be responsible for recruiting volunteers to fill committee roles and assist with events and other activities hosted by DF2S. This volunteer will work closely with the Wylde Center volunteer coordinator to share opportunities with a broader audience.

Merchandise: One to two volunteers to keep track of, order, and sell DF2S merchandise.

CSD Teachers: We used to have at least one teacher on the DF2S committee and relied on our teachers to keep us connected to the schools. We would love to have 1-2 teachers join us again who may also want to take on a project listed above.

Treasurer: Track DF2SC budget and report out regularly
