Join APP member and instructor Ryan Ouellette for this helpful and informative webinar. We will explore the fundamentals of freehand piercing techniques from theory to execution. The design and origin of modern body piercing needles will be explained, as well as the differences between US style “blade needles” and cannula needles. Bevel theory, marking and placement, wound shaping, jewelry transfers, and more. This class will cover theories and methods for several piercings including, navel, nipple (including inverted nipples), surface piercings, nostrils, ear cartilage, and more. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions to provide a personalized learning experience. 

Part 1: Understanding & Applying Bevel Theory slideshow presentation: this section will explain the physics of how a piercing needle makes a hole, and how best to control it. Learn about needle design and how the blades of the needle physically make a hole. Learn how to reduce tissue trauma by controlling the way force is applied to the needle. We will also cover different needle bending and modification (crushing) theories for additional control and functionality.

Part 2: Hands on workshop and practice: attendees will be shown live needle dynamic techniques and then have the opportunity to practice on inanimate objects. The instructor can then help dial in the techniques we cover. To take full advantage of the workshop portion it is suggested to have the following materials ready: a few piercing "blade" needles (ranging from 16g - 10g), ripe yellow bananas, a hard plastic receptacle for used needles. Parallel pliers are optional, but will be necessary to practice needle crushing. Gloves are optional but suggested. This webinar is available to professional piercers and apprentices working within body art businesses only, verification is required. Due to the nature of this webinar we can not register anyone who can not verify they are working within a body art studio.  Apprentices are encouraged to register with their mentor. 

Webinar will be held online via the Zoom platform on Sunday the 19th of May 2024 starting at 12:00 noon eastern US time. Run time including slideshow, workshop, and breaks will be roughly 4 hours. It is suggested to download and test the zoom app on your device in advance.
