Skill Level
Below are descriptions of levels of playing ability. We are asking you to rank yourself on where you believe you are as a player. Skating/Skills and Game Knowledge/Experience are separate categories, as they can differ from player to player. This allows for more flexibility in ranking one's skill and playing ability. For instance, a player may have a B & Above level knowledge of game rules and systems, but their stickhandling and passing ability may be at the C/D level. Consider your SKILLS (skating, passing, stickhandling, etc) and your GAME KNOWLEDGE (positioning, systems, penalty kills and power plays, etc) separately when choosing where to rank yourself. Please be honest, as this will ensure the most positive and the safest experience for all players.
(D): This player is a beginner in the truest sense of the word. They began playing the game as an adult and have only 1-5 years of playing experience. The basic skills of the game, i.e. skating, shooting, and passing are the main focus of their development.
(D+): This player may have 3 or more years of playing experience as an adult. They show improvement and comfort with the basic skills of the game. Forward skating has improved, but transitions are still uncomfortable, i.e. cross-overs and pivoting from forward skating to backward skating. This player has some ability to skate backwards.
(C/D): They may have played some adult recreational hockey and some youth hockey up to the Bantam house/non-competitive level. Stickhandling and shooting skills may still be growing in proficiency. Skills in traditional hockey (breaking out, offensive and defensive transitions) may still be growing in proficiency.
(C): Experienced adult recreational player and played competitive youth hockey up to midget or high school. All core hockey skills have developed to a competitive level. Players have a solid understanding of positional hockey. Forward and backward skating skills are strong with good maneuverability and transition. Some of these players may be older players interested in playing in a consistent manner appropriate for tournament play.
(B & Above): This player is an advanced level adult player with high level hockey skills. They also have a high understanding of team play, positioning, power plays, penalty kills, and all rules of the game. They may have played at the high school varsity level in a strong hockey state or college hockey.
