Parents Seminars: Third Culture Kids
On Wednesday, September 14, the school will host two Parent seminars on the topic of Third Culture Kids (TCKs) from 2- 3 pm. One seminar will be for Malaysian/Singaporean parents. The other seminar will be for International parents.
Third culture kids or third culture individuals are people who were raised in a culture other than their parents' or the culture of their country of nationality. They also live in a different environment during a significant part of their child development years.
In the student center, Mrs. Janet Cheang, President of our PTO, will be sharing her own story and research about the cultural impact of international schools on Malaysian/Singaporean children, also known as domestic TCKs. Malaysian and Singaporean parents of children between the ages of 10-18 years old (Middle/High School) are welcome to attend to learn more about this parenting dynamic.
In the Vintage Chapel (on lower campus), Mr. Paul Dobson, Head of Guidance, will be sharing research based insights on international TCKs as well as his own story of growing up cross-culturally. International parents of children of all ages (Elementary, Middle & High School) are welcome to attend to learn more about about third culture individuals.
