The Gender Equity Center Ambassador program offers comprehensive training to cultivate a community of SJSU students who are passionate about ending gender-based violence. This 5-part series program, held each Fall and Spring semester, empowers students to make a meaningful impact by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to begin doing violence prevention work. Upon program completion, participants receive a certificate and the chance to further explore their interests through volunteering with the Gender Equity Center.
The topics are as follows:
Consent 101 & 102 (September 25th, 2023) // Student Union Meeting Room 3A
Healthy/Unhealthy/Abusive: Spotting the Differences (October 2nd, 2023) // Student Union Meeting Room 3A
What is Sexual Violence Culture? (October 9th, 2023) // Student Union Meeting Room 3A
Reproductive Justice (October 16th, 2023) // Student Union Meeting Room 4A
Active Bystander/Upstander Training (October 23rd, 2023) // Student Union Meeting Room 4B
All sessions will take place in the Student Union Meeting Rooms on the upper floor of the Student Union.
All SJSU students are welcome to attend as few or as many of the sessions as they would like. Students who complete 4 or more of the sessions will receive a certificate of completion for the program and the opportunity to continue exploring their interest in this work through volunteering with GenEC. We especially need volunteers during the month of October for IPDVAM (Interpersonal Domestic Violence Awareness Month) and April for SAAM (Sexual Assault Awareness Month).
Snacks will be provided for all sessions. Anyone within the space must remain respectful towards other guests and presenters at all times or will be asked to leave the space.
