Vegas Pro 20 Benchmark
Compare your system's render performance against our community of users! This benchmark was made in VP 20 and should work with all builds of VP 20 and later versions. Have an older version or want to try a different project? Try the VP 16 "sample project" benchmark instead.

See here for results (updated automatically): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1j8x8w3wYjtEQt1Jg4UFVzA20HCPI9bUlW6uNnQ5bd6Q/edit?usp=sharing

Instructions:
  1. Download the project at this link and unzip to a folder
  2. Open the project file "VEGAS Pro Fanmade Ad - The All New VEGAS Pro (Update 1.01).veg
  3. Select the entire timeline (hint: triple-click just below the last marker to select the whole timeline)
  4. Go to Render As and pick a template to customize.
  5. Select a MagixAVC Internet template and then change frame size to "custom frame size". Width: 2160, Height: 2700
  6. Required bitrates- set to variable bit rate 48,000,000 bps maximum / 24,000,000 average
  7. Render at 24.000 (Film)
  8. Record the final render time
  9. (recommended) after the system cools try a second render and report the best time
Render Settings:
  • For Mainconcept use RC Mode: h264_VBR
  • For NV Encoder use Preset: default and RC Mode: VBR
  • For QSV use RC Mode: VBR and Encode Quality: 4
  • For VCE use Preset: Default and RC Mode: VBR - peak constrained
You are encouraged to submit results for both GPU encoding and CPU encoding ("Mainconcept"). You can fill out this form multiple times for different settings or machines.

There is also an AI section you can enable to test the performance of AI on your system. It has been disabled by default for maximum compatibility.  Enable AI style transfer by going to marker 13, scrolling down to "graphics and text" and checking the box to enable the style transfer Fx on the "Woman (with Style Transfer Plugin Disabled) media on track 11. Note that times pre VP 20.236 are not comparable to 236 or later as the AI engine has changed.

Unique name to identify you. Use Vegas Pro forum name if available.
Computer brand/model *
i.e. MSI Raider Raider GE77 HX, Own Build (for custom), Alienware X15 R2, etc.
Version of Vegas Pro *
This project works with VP 20 and newer
Build of Vegas Pro
*
Example: 236 (find this under help/about)
CPU Manufacturer *
CPU Model
*
‎ ‎e.g. Ryzen 7 7700X, i9-13900K.
Don't know? Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, click on performance and then CPU. It will list the name and below the number of cores.

Integrated GPU?
Many Intel processors have an integrated GPU such as the UHD 770, HD 630 etc. Some AMD processors do as well ("Radeon Graphics"). If you have one working in Vegas, enter the model here.  If none or it is completely disabled answer no. If you don't know, leave it blank.

GPU Mfg. *
For systems with a dedicated GPU (graphics processing unit). For Intel this refers to the new dedicated Intel Arc graphics cards. If you only have a processor-integrated iGPU, or no GPU at all, select none.
GPU Model
What is your specific GPU Model? Please include GTX or RTX for NVIDIA. For example: RX-6800XT, RTX 4080, Vega 64, ARC A380, etc. Not sure? Check Windows device manager and click on "display adapters"
Hardware Graphics Acceleration
Is GPU enabled with Vegas in Preferences/Video? If not, check "off"
Clear selection
GPU Decoding
Is the GPU assisting with media decoding under preferences/file io (VP 18+). Please check what is listed under "Hardware decoder to use"
If your GPU isn't supported, or you turned it off for decoding, choose "Off."
If you're using the legacy decoder (which also disables GPU decoding) choose legacy AVC.

Dynamic Ram preview (MB total)
Dynamic ram preview (found under preferences/video) can have an impact on render times.
Please report the amount of memory allocated to dynamic ram preview during the render in megabytes (VP 20+ sets it as a % of system ram but just report the megabyte total that is equivalent to.) If you don't know it leave this blank.
Encode Mode
*
Did you render using hardware graphics acceleration? The MagixAVC template gives choices to render with any available graphics cards. NVENC (NVIDIA), VCE (AMD) or QSV (Intel) will be in the template name. If you don't have any of these choices in Vegas, it cannot render with your GPU and you will be using CPU (Mainconcept software encoder).
Try encodes with CPU and GPU and see the difference in render speed.

Render time (minutes:seconds mm:ss) *
e.g. 02:14 or 01:40 or 0:50
How to enable AI-assisted Fx (optional)
Enable AI-powered "style transfer" Fx by going to marker 13, scrolling down to "graphics and text" and checking the box to enable the style transfer Fx on the "Woman (with Style Transfer Plugin Disabled) media on track 11.

Drag this image to a new tab to see it at full size
AI Fx Enabled Render time (Optional)
minutes:seconds mm:ss
write 01:20
for 1 minute, 2 seconds  or 0:40 for 40 seconds

In VP 20 build 326 or newer (times in older builds may not be comparable as the system has changed), render just the region between markers 13 and 14 with the AI Fx enabled as described above. Use the same encoder as before (Mainconcept, VCE, QSV or NVENC)

Recommended to run 2 or more times and report the fastest time as it can vary significantly. Some users report instability and out of memory errors with AI fx.
Preview Frame Rate (Marker 1-2)
*
Example: 1 or 8.5 (Round to the nearest half-second)

How many frames per second does your computer get on the region between markers 1 and 2? Select this region, go to preferences/ video and change dynamic ram preview to 0MB. Set quality to best/full and play back this section. Watch the frames per second display under the preview window and report the average here rounded to the nearest second. Set dynamic ram preview back to your preferred setting after this test.
Settings for Preview Frame Rate Test
Render Glitches (Optional)
Please review your rendered file in a media player. Are there any glitched frames around "advanced HDR color correction" and "dockable windows" (or elsewhere in the file)? These may occur when dynamic ram preview is set to a value greater than zero.
