This sign-up form has 3 sections and will take about 5 minutes to complete. The deadline to register is Sunday January 16th, 2022 at 11:59pm. Please read the paragraphs below to gather all the information necessary to participate in this challenge.
The Healthcare Innovation Challenge (HIC) is an opportunity to work with other students across UTHealth schools to solve systemic issues in U.S. healthcare. Students will be organized into interprofessional teams and presented with a case in which they are to come up with an innovative solution. Students have a month to prepare their solution prior to presenting to judges on competition day, February 19th, 2022.
Please note that filling out this form does not guarantee you a spot in the 2021 event. This form will simply add you to a waitlist for your respective school. Each of the 6 UTHealth schools have reserved student spots and they will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis per the time-stamped submission of this form. All students who sign up after theirs school’s spots have been filled will be added to the waitlist. We will reserve spots for each of the 6 UTHealth schools until January 10 at which point all remaining open spots will be filled from the aforementioned waitlist.
Eligibility criteria to participate in the 2021 HIC challenge:
1. You must be 18 years or older to participate.
2. You must be a student at a UTHealth school to participate.
3. You must be able to complete a pre-event and post-event survey about your experiences with the team and collaborative work.
We will notify you on Monday January 17 to let you know your status of being on a team or the waitlist. Then, the case will be sent to all the teams on Friday January 21 which will mark the beginning of the 4-week work period leading up to the event on Saturday Feb. 19.
If any open slots remain at the end of the registration period, they will be filled based on the waitlist created with this form.
***By filling out this form you are agreeing to participate on a team for the annual event AND in working with your team to prepare a robust solution during the 3-4 weeks leading up to the event. Prior students estimated they spent 3-7 hours per week on HIC work.***
