What We Do:
SHC serves as the voice of the student body within School House and advances the mission of School House—to build community within the house, to intellectually engage students, and to provide continuity with housing. SHC’s mission is to establish and strengthen connections between School House members throughout the undergraduate, graduate, and professional experience at Dartmouth by creating opportunities to stimulate learning, build affinity, and form lasting bonds that exceed the college experience.

Who We Are:
We are advised by House Professor Craig Sutton, Assistant Director Miranda Piscopo, and Resident Fellow Ivan Cornish. As I mentioned, I am the current President. SHC is divided into three committees, which are each headed by a respective Vice President. These committees included individuals from all classes. Emma, Vaish, and Wen are the Vice Presidents for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Committees:
Individuals will be placed on one of three committees that will make up the full SHC and be overseen by the HP, AD, RF, and President. The three committees and their usual duties are as follows:

1.    Internal Affairs Committee (VP: Vaish Thiraviyarajah '22): would be focused on building affinity within School House. This means designing house merchandise, recruiting new full board members, initiating first year students into the house, recruiting house members to various teams/events for IHC, etc.

2.    External Affairs Committee (VP: Emma Johnson '24): External Affairs Committee would be focused on outfacing aspects of School House. This means working with the IHC (Inter-House Council), updating social media sites, and advertising for the house.

3.    Planning Committee (VP: Wenhan Sun '24): Planning Committee would be focused on the planning, executing, and assessing of Executive Board events. This means planning day-trips, movie nights, and the like. They would work with Internal and External Committee members for their assistance in the execution of events.

Time Commitment: Total: ~1-2 hours/week. SHC Meeting (Time: Sundays 4 pm)
Full council meetings will occur once a week, for about an hour. This meeting is a check-in point so that the entire board is aware of what other committees are working on.
Outside of meetings you will also be expected to attend or help run events, but this will vary depending on term.
