The Project – Creating Our Congregation’s Vision and Mission
Thank you for adding your voice in creating a new vision for our shared future.
Vision
Our vision is a statement of our aspirations over the next five to ten years, our big
goals, a statement of our desire to be more. A vision could be a new direction, or
it could be a recommitment to support and strengthen something we already do.
Examples:
“. . . unite to build a beloved community within and beyond our walls. Guided by
individual conscience and wisdom from many sources, we gather in worship and
service to nourish the spirit, work for justice, and celebrate the divine in all.”
“. . . provide a respectful home for intellectual, spiritual, and creative exploration,
and to build a community of fellowship, caring and service that lights the flame of
social action.”
Mission
Our mission is a statement of what needs we address, why we exist, and who we
serve. Mission is our commitment to achieve specific objectives, but not the
details of how to achieve them.
Examples: Our mission is to . . .
“. . . provide a home for liberal religion, to connect people of all ages, to promote
social justice causes, and to sustain itself for future generations.”
“. . . create a welcoming community of diverse individuals; to promote love,
reason and freedom in religion; to foster lifelong spiritual growth; and to act for
social justice.”
