2024 will mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the History of Science Society. To mark the occasion, HSS is looking to organize and co-sponsor programming that looks at the history of science as a field and/or HSS over the past century and asks, “Where have we been? Where are we now? Where do we want to be?”
As part of our two year-long “centenary celebration,” which will kick off at the annual meeting in Chicago in 2022 and culminate at the annual meeting in Merida in 2024, we are launching a podcast in collaboration with the Consortium for the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine. The podcast will tentatively launch in mid-2023.
The HSS Centennial Committee, together with the Consortium, is seeking pitches for 10-20 minute podcast episodes that examine the history of the field of history of science and/or the history of HSS as an organization. Podcast episodes can take any form and can include but are not limited to:
- Interviews
Book chats
Microhistories
Retrospectives
Spotlights on specific museum, library, or archive collections
History of science-themed walking tours
Speculations about the future of the discipline
Discussions of academic practice and experience (i.e., writing craft, pedagogy, graduate student life, etc.)
Discussions of the history of science in popular culture and media
Speculations about the future of academic societies and institutions
Please include your brief (max. 500 words) pitch for a podcast episode below by January 20, 2023. Podcast recording will be arranged by the Consortium’s staff; no special recording equipment is necessary to participate. The Committee will respond to pitches by February 24, 2023. You may propose more than one episode, but please fill out another form.Questions? Contact Kate Sheppard, chair of the Centennial Committee at: sheppardka@mst.edu
