ABOUT TEACHING A LAB AT WAYFINDING ACADEMY
-- All Labs are 12 hours of total instruction time, typically broken up into four sessions over four weeks. Scheduling is very flexible and Labs most often take place on weeknights or weekends. Participants are mainly students but community members can (and do) also attend for a sliding-scale registration fee.
-- We welcome Lab faculty to use our space to teach the Lab, but we also encourage you to bring students to any space(s) you'd like to teach in or to do 'off campus' sessions. We also welcome you bringing in guest speakers if desired.
-- Lab faculty are expected to prepare the Lab, teach in the "Wayfinding Way" (interactive, hands-on, and student-centered), and fill out electronic evaluations for any students who attend within two weeks of the Lab ending. We ask Lab Faculty to create and share a roadmap (our version of a syllabus, we have a template for you) about a month before the Lab begins so that we can answer any questions you might have.
-- We offer Lab faculty a small stipend for their time ($500) and a small amount ($20) to purchase any supplies necessary. Additionally, any registration fees paid by community participants will be split 50/50 with instructors.
-- We select Labs and Leaders based on student interest each year. If it seems like your Lab ideas might be a good fit for future programming, we will reach out directly when we begin planning the next year/term.
