Kansas City Lyra Chapter Harp Competition 2024
The Kansas City Lyra Chapter is proud to offer a competition that is available to student harpists of all levels This competition will be held virtually. Students must submit their videos by April 21st. Students can participate in 7 different levels. Levels I - VI range from early beginner to advanced, and are open to students ages 5 to 18. Each of these levels will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Level VII is meant for young adults, with a maximum age of 25 years, and will offer a monetary prize to 1st and 2nd place winners.
Our official competition sponsor is Vanderbilt Music.  Gift certificates will be awarded to top prizewinners.  We encourage you to purchase you music from Vanderbilt.  Students must submit a picture of their own original music. 

Deadlines and Fees: The Kansas City Lyra Chapter’s Competition registration fees are as follows:

Registration due date: April 8th - $30 members, $40 non-members (Teachers music be members as well)
Late Registrations will be accepted up until April 15th, with a $10 late fee.
We ask that teachers send all forms for their students together, and that all registration fees are combined into one check from the studio. There will be no refunds. Checks can be mailed to the treasurer:

Students should play the listed repertoire piece from memory. They can still participate if the piece isn’t memorized but they will not receive any points in the memorization category.
Participants will record their piece and submit virtually by April 21. 

  • Video links are due by 7pm CT on April 21st. Upload your video to YouTube, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., and send the link to kcharpchapter@gmail.com. Also include a scanned copy of your music with the measures numbered at the beginning of each line.
  • Video should be taken from the harpist's left side. The harpist's face and hands must always be visible.
  • You may record as many times as you like, but the submitted video must be one single take. No editing or effects allowed.
  • Avoid bright lights behind the harpist.
  • Limit background noise as much as possible.
  • Tune the harp before you begin recording.
  • Do not talk during your video.
  • If you are using your phone/tablet to record, make sure no cases, fingers, etc. are blocking the microphone. We also recommend you put it on silent before you begin recording to avoid interruptions!
