The Lake St. Clair Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (CISMA) is performing early detection, rapid response Red Swamp Crayfish (RSC) efforts along the Newland Drain, Greystone golf club ponds, and nearby water bodies. RSC are a highly destructive species that have recently invaded Macomb county.
Survey and trapping work will be conducted at no cost to the landowner and all efforts will remain within the drain, ponds, and lakes. Trapping will consist of deploying Gee Minnow traps at a density of 1 trap per 25 meters of shoreline. Each trap will have a buoy attached and string tied around a wooden stake to hold it in place under water. Traps will stay in each location for a minimum of 3 days, with CISMA staff checking them daily. If RSC are found, the traps will be baited and set again. If no RSC are found, then the traps will be moved to a new location.
Surveys start June 1 and will continue through August / September. Permissions can be provided by completing this online form. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Amanda at 248-504-4315 or email
