The Kids in Mrs. Z's Class School Visit Request with Kate Messner and Rajani LaRocca
Meet THE KIDS IN MRS. Z'S CLASS, an exciting new multi-author series from Algonquin Young Readers!

A brand new school called Curiosity Academy.
One third grade classroom.
18 amazing kids.
18 stories, each written by a different beloved author.
18 secrets.

The series launches in June 2024 with two books, EMMA MCKENNA, FULL OUT by Kate Messner and ROHAN MURTHY HAS A PLAN by Rajani LaRocca. And your elementary school could be chosen for a double author visit!

In late May and early June, we'll be hitting the road to share a sneak peek at the first two books, along with the story of how we wrote them - from idea to character development to plotting and collaboration. At each school, we'll present one assembly that includes a writing workshop, walking readers through the brainstorming process to develop characters so they can collaborate with their friends on stories of their own.

We'll be scheduling both in-person author visits (in select cities in the Northeast) and virtual visits in the last week of May and first week of June. These will be free visits, with an expectation that classes participating will read a chapter or two before our visit, and that order forms will go home with families so they have the opportunity to order signed books.

We'll prioritize schools that plan to pre-order copies of the first two books for each 2nd and 3rd grade reader to enjoy with their families over the summer.  Even with the book's low price in paperback, we know this might not be possible for some schools, so we're also committed to including some Title I and small rural schools, and we'll have virtual visit options as well.

If you'd like your school to be considered for a double author visit with Kate and Rajani, please fill out this form and we'll be in touch soon!  We'll be working with our publisher this fall to select schools for the May-June THE KIDS IN MRS. Z'S CLASS tour, so there will be plenty of time to talk about details & preparation.

One more note - we know you'll want to read the books before making a commitment to purchase copies! Advance reading copies should be available next month, and if your school seems like a good fit, we'll be sure to send one along.

About how many students are in each grade level at your school? (Just grade 3, for example - not the whole-school population.) *
We're excited that our books will launch in both hardcover and paperback, making them affordable for school-wide reads! (They'll be $6.99 in paperback.) Our hope is to visit some schools that plan to purchase copies for every student, or for every student in a particular grade, for summer reading, as well as some smaller schools and those where budgets don't often allow for author visits. Which of the following best describes your school's situation?  *
As noted above, book tour author visits are free of charge, but with an expectation that all students will be prepared for the visit ahead of time by reading a provided excerpt (a chapter or two) and that book order forms will be sent home to all families. Is this something your school community will support?

Is there anything else we should know about your school community and your interest in hosting an author visit?

This is the place to let us know how you typically prepare for author visits, if your art and music teachers also love to get involved, if you've never had an author visit before, if your school has a community-wide read each year, if your students especially love writing workshops, etc.
