What is Qigong?
Qigong (pronounced “chee-goong”) originated in China over 4,000 years ago and is a powerful system of healing and energy medicine (yes, even before Tai Chi). It is a series of gentle exercise that involves breathing techniques, gentle movement and meditation, which acts to cleanse, strengthen and circulate the life energy (qi) allowing it to flow smoothly and unobstructed, while also stimulating and restoring the body. In western science, this idea is explained through Qigong’s ability to improve circulation and lymphathic drainage. Today, holistic practitioners promote Qigong for its proven stress-reducing benefits, plus its ability to improve flexibility and inner-focus. Qigong is increasingly becoming popular among the West where office staff are using it for stress reduction, while athletes are using its proprioceptive benefits to enhance skill levels in their domains.
