NC Synod Youth Band
"O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!" (Psalm 95:1)

Music is such an important part of who we are as God's people and YOU are invited to join us in leading music for LYO this year! As a member of the NC Synod Youth Band, you would be a leader in our synod and a leader during youth events like the annual LYO Assembly and the triennial ELCA Youth Gathering. Below you will find some information about the band and what it means to serve as a leader in the NC Synod Youth Band.

ELIGIBILITY: High school youth and college-aged young adults.

GOAL = EMPOWERING LEADERS: It is our hope that as this band develops and evolves, the adults who help lead can take a step back and empower the leadership of youth and young adults. That is why we will be working to incorporate college-aged young adults into our group. As band members move on to life after high school there will be opportunities for greater leadership.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY – LYO ASSEMBLY: The chief responsibility of this band is to provide music leadership during youth events of our synod. Primarily, this looks like leading music at the LYO Assembly in February each year. Because of this focus, it is required that members of the band be able to attend scheduled practices and the event as listed below:

    Practice Schedule TBD

October 1, 2022: YouthQuake @ Mt. Pisgah, Hickory

February 24-26, 2023: LYO Assembly @ Embassy Suites, Greensboro

If you are unable to attend this event, we thank you for your interest, but we will not be able to have you join us in the band this year. In addition to these practices, there will be music sent out for members to listen to and familiarize themselves with prior to practicing.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES – ELCA YOUTH GATHERING: On years where there is an ELCA Youth Gathering, band members who are attending the event with their congregations are invited to lead music at the Gathering’s Synod Day event for NC. The next Gathering is scheduled for July 16-20, 2024 in New Orleans, LA.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES – YOUTHQUAKE: Young Adult and Adult members of the band are also responsible for leading our synod's event for 3rd-5th grade youth called YouthQuake, which will be held on October 1, 2022 this year. During that day, they will also meet to plan for LYO Assembly.

APPLICATION PROCESS: After reviewing the requirements listed below, complete the following form by June 30th and submit a video of you doing something that best demonstrates your musical ability. (It is ok if it is simply a video shot on your phone!) Submit videos to: ncsynodband@gmail.com by June 30th at end of day. You will also need to provide contact info for a recommendation from your pastor or youth leader. If you are a returning member of the band, you must fill out this form, but the video is not necessary.

All applicants will be notified of final decisions no later than August 31st.

Thank you for your interest in serving and leading alongside us as we use our gifts to serve God and each other!
