The Western Engineering Competition is coming to the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia in January of 2022! This event is the premiere conference for engineering students from institutions spanning from British Columbia to Manitoba. The convention showcases competition in eight categories related to the engineering profession, supplemented by sessional workshops, keynotes, and panels offering unique professional development opportunities to the featured student teams and delegations. If you are passionate about student leadership, interested in managing a conference, or curious about running a non-profit, there are a number of exciting opportunities to be involved as a member of the Organizing Committee! Applications are open to all students, and all submissions are highly encouraged! As a member you would join a team of dedicated individuals and participate in a firsthand conference experience in the vibrant urban centres of Kelowna. The theme for the event centres around innovation and entrepreneurship, and emphasizes their importance in the resilience of business in a post pandemic world. It is envisioned that Western Engineering Competition will incorporate expansive engagement from unique community supporters and local industry stakeholders and businesses, including organizations focused on accelerating and incubating tech start-ups in the Okanagan. If permissible under public health orders, the event is tentatively scheduled to be hosted over a five day period from the nineteenth to twenty-third of January in 2022 at venues including the University of British Columbia Okanagan and the Delta Hotels by Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort.

The ideal applicant should show passion and dedication for their portfolios of interest and display an ability to commit time to the project on a regular basis, especially over the summer months and in the leadup to the conference. A member of the Organizing Committee should expect to dedicate an average of approximately five to fifteen hours per week to the duties and responsibilities associated with their portfolio and role, depending on the stage of planning and point in project timeline. An Organizing Committee role offers the potential for you to grow your network, boost your resume, connect with businesses and potential employers, and lead a widely recognized student competition into the next generation of student conferences as the global pandemic subsides.
