By Discovery is an AFTER SCHOOL ART ENRICHMENT PROGRAM of the LINCOLN PTO that offers elementary school children opportunities for exploration and growth through creative project-based learning.
BY DISCOVERY is offered EVERYDAY school is in session, on the following days and times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3–6 pm & Wednesday from 2:30–6 pm.
REGISTRATION:
Parents register their child to attend on specific days of the week throughout the school year. We are not a drop by program and space is limited to 20 students.
Programming may include Half Days from 11am to 6pm, for an additional $50 fee per Half Day session provided there are 6 or more participants (invoiced separately from the monthly fee).
Programming may include Teacher Institute Days from 8am to 6pm, for an additional $75 fee per Teacher Institute Day, provided there are 6 or more participants (invoiced separately from the monthly fee).

ENROLLMENT:
Enrollment is first-come first-served, unless there is a need to round out enrollments, should there be an imbalance that prevents the possibility for full-time participation. Enrollments are open throughout the year, based upon availability (some days may reach their maximum enrollment).
PROGRAM COST:
The cost for the program is $29 per day.
NEED BASED SCHOLARSHIPS:
Two full-time partial scholarships (or part time equivalents) are available each school year and reduce program fees by 50%. A child qualifies for the scholarship if she/he receives free or reduced lunch. Scholarships are awarded in the order in which they are received (first-come, first-served). Additional scholarships may be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, should space allow following the start of the school year.
SIBLING DISCOUNTS:
A 5% discount is awarded to families who have more than one child enrolled in the program
MONTHLY FEES:
Monthly fees are calculated based on the days of the week your child attends and the total of those days per school calendar year, divided by 9 (September through May). Fees are pro-rated for those who enroll during the school year, based on actual participation days.
INVOICES:
Invoices are generated via "Wave" online accounting and emailed on the 8th of each month. Program fees are due by the 15th of each month or the next business day, if the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday. Note: Even though programming begins in August, your first invoice will be emailed on September 8th.
LATE FEES:
A $25 late fee will be invoiced for each month a payment is submitted past the due date's 3 day grace period.
CANCELLATION NOTICE:
A 30 day cancellation notice is required, prior to the first day of school, if the cancellation occurs before the start of the 2022/23 school year. A $25 cancellation fee will apply. If the cancellation occurs during the school year, a 30 day cancellation notice is also required.
COVID SAFETY:
Covid-safety measures are a top priority and we will closely follow all CDC protocols that may continue into the 2022/23 school year. These may include: wearing a well fitted mask, maintaining social distancing, and washing and sanitizing hands as needed.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the uncertainty of Covid-19, programming is conditional within a D97 school, based on guidance from the CDC and State Health Departments.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FAQs:
1. Students who attend an after school activity may participate in By Discovery following their scheduled activity
.
2. Students eat a NUT-FREE snack (packed from home) and enjoy outdoor play (weather permitting) at the start of every session
.
3. Homework time is encouraged as projects/activities come to a close, approximately 5:15pm
.
4. Suggested pick up time is from 5:15 to 6pm, during free play (including Legos and imaginative/sensory play
items).
ABOUT BY DISCOVERY:
By Discovery was founded in 2011 by Jocelyne Adkins, Program Director & Lead Educator. She holds a Masters Degree in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has 20 years of teaching experience. By Discovery began as a pilot program at Beye School and grew to include Lincoln Elementary in 2019.
Samantha Travis is our Teaching Artist at Lincoln. She holds a BFA degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Curriculum is developed by our team of educators and teaching artists. We are inspired daily by our students; artists both past and present; nature and our imaginations!

REGISTRATION & PROGRAM AGREEMENT:
To register your child for By Discovery, After School Art Enrichment Program, please complete the form below. Within 48 hours of your registration, you will receive an email confirmation and an online Program Agreement to sign, due within 1 week of your child's registration. Program Agreements not received within this time frame will render your registration void, re-opening the space for other registrants.Thank you!
