*Candidates will receive tryout video links & skills testing links on Monday, May 4.  Each Candidate must use the videos to learn Dance routine, Sideline Cheer, & Skills testing videos.

*On Friday, June 5, if we are allowed, the following will happen:

Each candidate will be assigned a time slot
The candidate will arrive and work one on one with Senior team members on tryout routines for 30 minutes.  After 30
minutes, you will perform in front of the judges and then complete the skills testing in front of a panel of senior team
members. After the skills testing, each candidate will go home.  Candidates who have made team will be announced via               phone call from Coach Wolfs on Saturday June 6th.

*If we are not able to hold live tryouts, each candidate will be required to submit a video of them performing the routine to music, required sideline cheer and required skills demo.  These videos will be viewed and judged by a panel of judges who all have experience within cheerleading.  These videos will be due on June 5, results will be posted by June 6.

*We will use a scoring process and will look for the "great divide" in the score totals.  Each item is weighted by importance and here is the list of items included in the scoring in the order of importance (most weighted):  Judges scores, skills testing, school discipline & school attendance.

CRITERIA USED TO SELECT LAKES CHEER TEAM MEMBERS:

Although previous cheerleading experience is not necessary.  Judges will look for your ability to perform the audition routine (Dance routine to music, sideline cheer, and skills), BUT THEY WON’T BE LOOKING FOR PERFECTION. In addition to the required audition components there will be a coach’s evaluation, school attendance, and school discipline figured into the final scores.  We have no set number of spots on the team, we will look for the natural divide in the scores and that is where we will make our cuts. Returning cheerleaders are held to the same try out criteria as new candidates and do not automatically make the team.

At the audition, you will be judged on your overall performances, poise, projection and professionalism.  The coach will be present at auditions to introduce and evaluate your dance skills for future choreography planning, not to judge. Graduating seniors will be at audition to run music and doors only.  They will not do any judging at auditions. The judges will be using a scoring rubric to score your individual performances.  No spots are ever guaranteed and the scores are final.
SKILLS TESTING
Skills Demonstration will be performed during tryouts or submitted with the dance and sideline cheer video.  The skills that will be required to demonstrate are: 2 Jumps (toe touch and one jump of choice), right kick and left kick, and fundamental arm movements (High V, Low V, Touchdown, and T)

ADDITIONAL CHEER TEAM INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS

*You must follow all school rules, and expect that any infraction of the rules may be punished by suspension from the team for
the rest of the school year.

*You must put the cheer team as a priority over school clubs, other sports and employment. Work is not an excuse for missing scheduled practices and performances. Please be aware that if you miss 3 unexcused practices during the season this can lead removal from the performance.

*During Football and Basketball season you are expected to be at all practices during the week to perform in that weeks game.  If there is an unexcused absence from practice you will be removed from the 1st quarter of the following game. If there are 3 unexcused absences during the duration of practices leading up to a performance you will be removed from the performance.

*Lakes Cheer Team Rules include, but are not limited to the following:
-Learning all dances and practicing at home.
-Arriving at all practices and games on time.
-No gum chewing, no wearing jewelry, or using phones during practices or performances.

performances)... NO EXCEPTIONS – NFHS RULES!
-Cheerleading is a terrific experience, but requires a lot of dedication, time, commitment, and discipline. It’s not always fun,
but can be very rewarding and creates lasting memories and friendships.
