Field Canvasser Position Description

VietRISE is hiring 4 field contractors to participate in an 8-week door-to-door canvassing program for outreach to Vietnamese residents in Little Saigon, Orange County.

The position will be in-person, based at the VietRISE office (located in Garden Grove). There will be short-distance traveling to Garden Grove, Santa Ana, and Westminster from the office.

Responsibilities include:
  • Canvassing: knocking on homes in a community to have face-to-face conversations with mobile home residents
  • Data entry: each canvasser is responsible for inputting data they compile from canvassing into our online database

Skills & Qualifications
  • Ideal candidates are community-oriented individuals who are passionate about creating positive social change and building people power with Vietnamese, immigrant, and working class communities.
  • Must enjoy talking with people, can work independently and in a team environment, and can handle stress. 
  • Prior canvassing experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided for all. 
  • Enthusiasm and demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse community members.
  • Understanding of and commitment to VietRISE’s values, principles, concerns, communication and engagement practices, and considerations in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.
  • Ability to proficiently speak in Vietnamese (fluently is preferred, but not required)
  • Reliable transportation to travel throughout the cities of Westminster, Garden Grove, and Santa Ana.
Period of Work & Compensation

Position type: Contractor, short-term
Period of Work: July 26, 2023 - Sept 14, 2023 (8 weeks)

Compensation: $22/hour

*Meals will be provided for all shifts

Key dates:
  • Training day will take place at the VietRISE office on: Wednesday, July 26 from 3pm - 7:30pm
  • Canvassing will typically take place on the following dates and times*: Tuesdays-Thursdays, 3:00pm - 7:30pm

*Canvassing schedule can be flexible and adjusted to accommodate the field contractor's availability.
