The project "SPACE4LIFE" funded by the ESA-European Space Agency aims to study a possible low-cost satellite-based tool for increasing road-users safety when crossing a level crossing, and thus to decrease fatal accidents at rail-road crossings representing the second cause of railways fatalities in Europe.
Eventually, the proposed system could be strengthened in terms of data accuracy through the integration of ground technologies (i.e., optical cameras and interactive signs) where needed.
