Skin of Color Community Ambassador Application
The Skin of Color Community (SOCC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free and accessible dermatologic education to historically underserved people of color through engaging virtual and in-person community outreach events.

Part of the ambassador role is to serve as a liaison between SOCC and your local community. You can help us brainstorm ideas for future events based on listening to the needs of your local communities. We're hoping to provide benefits to communities and learn about their dermatologic needs.

Student Ambassador: Must currently be enrolled in an academic program at least at the high school level and be passionate about improving health equity in dermatology by making educational activities more accessible to all people. This role will report to the SOCC Outreach leadership team and collaborate on ways to engage stakeholders. Student ambassadors will need to build relationships with students, organizations, leaders, businesses, free clinics, community health centers, local dermatology clinics, primary care clinics, etc to share SOCC event information and social media posts, understand needs, and potentially host pop-up events. SOCC leadership will provide mentorship opportunities to foster interest in medicine and dermatology (e.g., how to apply to medical school, choosing a specialty, life as a resident).

Community Advocate: Must currently be affiliated with a business, organization, or institution that interfaces with the community (academic institution, salon, barbershop, place of worship, parenting groups, etc) and be passionate about improving health equity in dermatology by making educational activities more accessible to all people. This role will report to the SOCC Outreach leadership team and collaborate on ways to engage community members. Community advocates will need to build relationships with clients, organizations, leaders, businesses, employees, etc to share SOCC event information and social media posts, understand needs, and potentially host pop-up events. Community advocates will determine how SOCC can better serve their communities and assess the needs of their community. SOCC will spotlight advocates and their businesses/organizations in monthly SOCC newsletters.
