Who: Any youth club or high school wrestling coach interested in improving their coaching skills
Focus: The goal is to share valuable tips that are practical and easy to implement this season. Topics will be broken up into both coaching methods and some technique:
- Teaching methods and practice structures that maximize learning & retention
- Showing & explaining moves more effectively
- Skill progression throughout a season
- Drills & skills vs. moves
- Effective use of sparring & play wrestling
- Practice structures based on goals and stage of the season
- Improving mat coaching
- Before, during and after matches
- How to approach referees to get more correct calls
- Understanding the rule book
- Technique
- High percentage technique trends
- Fixing & preventing common technical mistakes (the why & how)
- Open mat - answering any of your questions
Make sure to bring something to take notes (or videos) as well as wrestling shoes (don't worry, you won't wrestle live).
