Supporting the unique mental health and emotional needs of pregnant and postpartum women requires a specialty lens and framework. This specialized training, led by perinatal mental health experts Elizabeth O'Brien, LPC, PMH-C and Melissa Keane, LPC, PMH-C will prepare you to better support the clinical mental health needs of this population. Whether you have been working with this population for a while and want to freshen up your skills or are just getting started with this specialty, this small group training is a perfect way to enhance your growth and knowledge. This intimate interactive format will cover important advanced therapeutic topics such as perinatal crisis & trauma, perinatal OCD/complex anxiety, plus more. Participants will leave with an increased confidence to support this population, an enhanced intervention tool box, and with tips to improve their professional growth within this important field.

Upon completion of this training, attendees will be able to:

  1. Understand how approaching perinatal mental health (PMH) requires a speciality lens/training, and learn techniques for conducting sessions from this framework.
  2. Consider ways to approach the multiple traumas that can occur during the perinatal timeframe.

  3. Properly identify and develop treatment plans to support complex anxiety/OCD case presentations.

About your Trainers:

Elizabeth and Melissa are licensed professional counselors with advanced certification in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International. Both Elizabeth and Melissa were founding board members of the local Postpartum Support International, Georgia Chapter (PSI-GA). This chapter has become a national leader in the field of perinatal mental health, recognized for its fundraising, innovative training courses, and mentorship for other PSI chapters. 

Elizabeth served as PSI-GA board president for three years, and continues to volunteer for the chapter. Additionally, Elizabeth is a national trainer with Postpartum Support International, and the 2019 winner of the Carolyn Wetzel Continuum Award honoring her role as an agent for positive change for the health and wellbeing of Georgia families. During her four years on the PSI-GA board, Melissa held several leadership positions including Communications Lead, Volunteer Coordinator, and Training Coordinator. She led the development and facilitation of a robust provider training program focusing on best practices for screening and referring patients for perinatal mental health challenges. Melissa currently serves as a volunteer trainer for PSI-GA.

Elizabeth has over twenty years of clinical experience and is a recognized expert in women’s well-being, specializing in Perinatal Mood and Anxiety disorders. She has been a featured contributor for articles, podcasts, and an ebook, including The Washington Post and Atlanta Magazine. Elizabeth earned an MA in Dance Movement Therapy, where she focused on complex trauma and early childhood mental health. Elizabeth is passionate about changing the mental health landscape for all mothers in Georgia.

Prior to becoming a therapist, Melissa had an accomplished career in marketing communications, including more than a decade of professional experience in marketing services, project development, and client relations. Her own difficult journey of becoming a mother led her to explore a second career as a mental health counselor and educator. 

Together, Elizabeth and Melissa are a dynamic team who bring their passion, knowledge and clinical expertise of perinatal mental health to each and every training they provide!
