If so, we invite you to apply for the Union Construction Academy of Maine, a four-week training program that offers a pathway into Registered Apprenticeships with Maine's Building & Construction Trades Unions. Registered Apprenticeships provide pathways to good jobs and an opportunity to earn great pay while you learn from experienced instructors. The Union Construction Academy of Maine is a Registered Pre-apprenticeship program designed specifically to prepare people who are underrepresented in the construction industry for stable and rewarding careers -- that includes women, people of color, immigrants, low-income individuals, people with disabilities, and folks who are in recovery or looking for an opportunity after involvement with the justice system.

Application deadlines:
  • Portland, ME- Summer Session (June 10-July 3): For full consideration, please complete your application no later than May 25.
  • Newport, ME - Women in the Trades Summer Session (July 22-August 16) For full consideration, please please submit your application no later than July 10.

Most first-year Union apprentices receive starting pay around $20/h, and receive contractually guaranteed pay increases at regular intervals as they complete training and gain skills. For most Unions, apprentices begin earning excellent benefits (healthcare, pension, etc.) after a short trial period. Are you willing and able to start work at $20/h for an apprenticeship, recognizing that pay and benefits will increase on a regular basis per the Union's Collective Bargaining agreement as you build your skill set?

Do you have previous experience in construction? No previous experience in construction is required for our program, but it can help us to identify which opportunities you may be most interested in and helps us to plan our training.
