The Nancy Waring Endowment Fund, established in 2018 with the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, honors the 24-year career of Nancy Waring as Associate Director of Bands at Pioneer High School from 1992 - 2017.
The Nancy Waring Award is a need-based award intended for any current band student in grades 9-12, which preference given to, but not limited to, a student who started in Varsity Band, the band and students with whom Ms. Waring worked closely. The award is to be used for a recognized music enrichment opportunity outside of the Pioneer High School program (e.g. Interlochen Arts Camp, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, MPulse, music lessons etc.)
The student’s record should clearly show that they:
- Regularly participates in band performances, social, and fundraising activities.
- Demonstrates a desire to improve as a musician and contribute to ensemble performance; and
- Intends to continue to play their instrument in an established ensemble.
The application form for the Nancy Waring Award must be completed online by the student and their parent/guardian. Applications for the Nancy Waring Award are due on or before May 3, 2024. The Nancy Waring Award will be presented each May at the Pioneer Band Banquet.
