Practical Theology Research Network In Oceania

Got a research idea but need help developing a methodology? Have you discovered some initial findings from your research but looking for some additional insights?

The Practical Theology Research Network in Oceania is a network of practical theologians, operating under the umbrella of the Association of Practical Theology in Oceania (APTO), collaborating to create an “incubator” for human subject (as opposed to text-based) practical theological research in Oceania.

The network currently holds four research seminars per year via Zoom to:

1.        Showcase practical theology research being performed by network members.

2.       Share resources helpful for practical theology research.

3.       Provide feedback to researchers on developing research ideas/proposals methodologies, data analysis and emerging conclusions.

The network is blessed with a number of experts in qualitative and quantitative human subject research methodologies who share their knowledge with others in the network. The network also exists to improve the profile of practical theology in the Asia-Pacific.

The current moderator of the Practical Theology Research Network in Oceania is Ian Hussey.

Each of the four research seminars usually has two presentations and discussions.

Applications to make a presentation at a Practical Theology Research Network in Oceania research seminar can be made through filling in this form. Presentation slots will be allocated on a “first in first served” basis and on the urgency for feedback. Researchers looking for feedback should make available a 1,000 word summary of their research ideas one week before their research presentation. Research presentations should be presented in an interesting and engaging manner. Simply reading a paper is strongly discouraged. Higher degree research students are welcome to make an application to present.

The dates for the Practical Theology Research Network in Oceania research seminars for 2024 are on Friday:

  • 1 March
  • 17 May
  • 26 July
  • 11 October

The seminars run from 2:00pm-4:00pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (Sydney/Melbourne). You will be emailed the Zoom link.

Although the research seminars will be open to robust discussion of practical theological research, they are also a “safe place,” where discrimination, inappropriate use of power and bigotry will not be tolerated.

Presenters are also strongly encouraged to consider becoming a member of APTO. More details are available by clicking here or http://apto.asn.au/membership/
