We won’t tell you what to write, but we will strengthen your argument and ensure your piece meets our publication standards.

We accept op-eds about anything we believe our readers will find worth reading, and especially value pieces about campus or local news.

We publish letters to the editor, at no more than 300 words, in response our coverage and campus and local news.

To submit, please read and agree to the responsibilities and publishing rights outlined below.

SUBMISSIONS:

Please note that all submissions become property of the Wheel and are subject to editing for grammar, punctuation, style, libelous content and length. Once published, op-eds and letters to the editor will not be removed from publication online. All submissions must include the author’s name, hometown and University affiliation.

The Wheel reserves the right to decide which submissions to publish. We do not accept pieces that have been published on other platforms, including but not limited to other publications and social media. We also do not accept pieces submitted under an organization but pieces can have multiple authors. You may suggest a headline, but the writer rarely writes the final headline. That responsibility lies with the editors.

EDITING PROCESS:

We use Google docs to handle all edits. We expect you to accept the changes and respond to comments in a timely manner, as well as communicate with your editor.

First, an opinion editor reads your piece. They will contact you with a link to your edited piece on a Google doc. Please go through edits — meaning, accept changes and respond to any questions or comments. After you complete the first round of edits, an executive-level editor will give you another round of edits, which you will also complete. Next, your piece will go to a copy editor, who will ensure the piece adheres to AP Style and Wheel style, fact-check the piece and correct any grammar mistakes or typos. Finally, our editor-in-chief will edit the piece and give approval for publishing.
