This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote in the USA. In observance of Women in History Month, a workshop will be presented on the topic: “African American Women and the Women’s Suffrage Movement”.

Workshop Presenter: Dr. Arthelda Busch Williams, Ed.D – NACWC National Historian
This workshop will be presented by the St. Louis Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc. (SLACWC), an affiliate of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Inc. (NACWC), the 1st National organization for women of color in the USA. It was organized in Washington, D.C in 1896, and locally in St. Louis in 1904. Many of its members were involved in the Women’s Suffrage Movement and will be highlighted in the presentation. Other historical African-American women and their involvement in the movement will also be highlighted.
All participants will receive FREE TEACHING MATERIALS related to the Women’s Suffrage Movement for use with their students. Resource materials will also include Reference Materials and related Internet Teacher Resources. Links to the Missouri DESE Learning Standards for high school students will also be provided.
