Welcome to Songseeds
Our retreats cater for songwriters at all stages of their career and as such we aim to create a space for writers to grow, experiment and develop their practise as well as add some songwriting techniques to their songwriting tool-kit. We encourage peer to peer support, honest feedback, and collaboration in a healthy and encouraging atmosphere. We look forward to receiving your application!
There are two fully funded bursary places available for eligible 18-35 year olds (courtesy of Creative Scotland)
Please note: SongSeeds is a residential retreat and participants are expected to room share. The greatest care is taken to ensure all participants are comfortable within their room share. SongSeeds reserves the right to refuse applications.
Writing Sessions: Unless collaborative, writing sessions are independent. You will write based on the task set, but please feel free to use this as a springboard only and interpret the task in any way you wish. Writing time is self-led. You should schedule this time in between the morning session and group share sessions each evening. This time is yours to use as you will.
Group Share: During the feedback sessions, you will be asked to perform your song to the group. The group will provide comments based on the song’s response to the task, general songwriting and possible progression. SongSeeds encourage constructive and positive, peer lead feedback. All feedback is opinion based on relative experience and feedback sessions are safe spaces where your work remains entirely autonomous and confidential. We have more info on our feedback policy here:
Intellectual property: All music written by participants remains the sole intellectual property of the participant. SongSeeds may ask for permissions to use a small segment of your song for promotional purposes. All permissions must be granted before SongSeeds will share your work in this manner.
Live Songshare: On the final day of the retreat, you will be invited to take part in a Songwriting circle where you can showcase your best song from the weekend and collaborate with fellow participants. Historically, this takes place in a local venue, which will be confirmed closer to the date of the retreat.
Ethical Agreement: The welfare and wellbeing of participants at SongSeeds Online Songwriting Retreats is of the highest importance to us. We encourage inclusive and accessible events and expect our participants to be mindful of all others taking part. By taking part in SongSeeds Online Songwriting Retreats, you agree to conduct yourself in such a way as to do no harm to other participants within the group. Any participant engaging in harmful, inappropriate or otherwise malicious conduct will be privately asked to consider their actions and in extreme cases be removed from the Retreat.Becci and the team
