DIVISIONS BY GRADE:
Cloverbud: K – 2
Beginner: 3 – 6
Intermediate: 7 – 9
Senior: 10 – 13
INTRODUCTIONS & COVER SHEETS:
Oral Presentations: Begin by introducing yourself and why you chose the piece/what it means to you.
Oral Presentation Time Limits: Time limits WILL be enforced. Introduction included in time parameters.
Cloverbud: 1 – 3 mins
Beginner: 2 – 4 mins
Intermediate: 4 – 5 mins
Senior: 4 – 5 mins
Paper Submissions: Have a cover sheet listing your name, grade, 4-H club, and why you chose the piece/what it means to you.
ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
Public Speaking: Original Composition – present a topic in a persuasive manner/with a point of view.
• The speech, story, or poem must be written by the participant, a printed copy must be presented to the judge. Presentation is memorized, not read (note cards allowed for reference purposes)
Interpretive Reading: Use your voice to make the words you are reading more exciting and involving for the listeners.
• Chosen reading can be your own writing or published prose, poetry, fiction, comedy, humor, children’s literature, news articles, speeches, letters, journals, etc.
• Presentation must include the source, author, and an introduction.
Project Talk: This is not a demonstration. It is a chance for you to share about one of your 4-H projects: information about some aspect of the subject, what you did for your project, something you have learned about this subject, etc.
Public Speaking: Same as Public Speaking above, but you can utilize a prop of your choice (i.e. PowerPoint, easel w/diagrams/graphics).
• If using a prop, you must notify the office by Friday, July 7th of what is needed for support (computer/projector/easel/etc.)
PAPER SUBMISSIONS: These entries are due to the 4-H Office by 4:00 pm, July 7th.
Photojournalism: Photos must have been taken by participant and tie to a headline/story. Include cover sheet.
• Cloverbud & Beginners: two photos and short captions that relate to your headline.
• Intermediate & Senior: a series of up to five photos in a photo story relating to your headline, on a poster or mat board, with captions. A 250 – 500-word essay or explanation must be attached.
Cartooning: Include cover sheet.
• May be single-frame or multi-frame cartoon mounted on a poster (8” x 10” or 11” x 14”)
4-H Promotional Poster: Cloverbuds only. Include cover sheet
• Poster should promote 4-H/joining 4-H in Itasca County.
• Poster size is 14” x 22”
