Little Star has two campuses: one in Winthrop that serves children infants, toddlers, and early childhood learners, and one in Twisp that serves infants and toddlers only. We operate most programs Monday - Friday, from 7:45 to 5:15, following a school-year model. With 9 classrooms, we need substitutes on a regular basis. Teachers are asked to line up subs in advance, though because of sickness or emergencies, sometimes it is a day-of or night-before call. Subbing can be as short as an hour, or could be for multiple days in a row.
Substitute teachers can set their own parameters based on their schedules, and can accept or turn down a gig at any time. There is no expectation of a certain number of hours or days. Substitute teachers can also specify which age groups they would like to work with (3-5 year olds, toddlers, infants, or all of them). Substitute teachers do need to have a cleared Portable Background Check from the Department of Children, Youth and Families, and complete additional training in First Aid/CPR, Positive Discipline, and about 3 hours of additional training. All of our classrooms have at least 2 teachers, so subs never work solo.
Wages start at $17-$19 an hour.
