Restaurants + Accessibility - Introduction
Thank you for taking this interview survey.

It is being conducted to quantify what aspects of design, service, and menu make a restaurant inaccessible to people with varying disabilities. It respects that disabilities are wide-reaching. As such, individuals meet various issues of inaccessibility when going to restaurants and a restaurant that's accessible to one disabled person might not be accessible to another.

Your participation in this survey will help us to host more conversations around restaurants + disability in the media and with disability and hospitality organizations.

NOTE: This survey is only for those 18 years of age and older.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The list below has been compiled with the assistance of chef and restaurant consultant, Shane Lyons. It includes decisions that chefs and restaurateurs consider when building a new restaurant, divided into 4 Sections.

For each Section, you can do two things:

1) First, check any / all items that might affect your ability to dine with a restaurant. Please stick to those that are regular considerations — the accessibility concerns you regularly look up online or call ahead to ask about, rather than all that could be possible but have not been a regular part of your experience.

These answers will help quantify the greatest factors that make spaces potentially inaccessible to disabled people.

2) Below each question is then space for you to detail how or why that item might make the space inaccessible to you in particular. Explain as much as like, here.

These details will fold into greater stories discussing the intersection of disability + food: media pieces, presentations, teaching materials, etc. For your entries to be quoted/included in those, please click I AGREE in the ACCEPTANCE DECLARATION that follows. Your name/contact info will go on an exclusive list around these stories, and you'll be directly contacted if your entries are quoted or included. Email Jacqueline@WordsFoodArt.com with any questions.

If you do not want to participate in this aspect, click I DO NOT AGREE and do not add any details after your entries.
