About Our Speakers:

Lenore Look
Lenore Look is the author of fifteen (and counting) award-winning books for young readers. Alvin Ho, her most popular series, features a Chinese-American boy who is afraid of everything — scary movies, acupuncture, girls, and most of all, school. Critics have called her work, “drop-dead funny and touching . . . with a truly unforgettable character.” Her other books include Brush of the Gods, a Wall Street Journal Children’s Book of the Year, which brings to vibrant life China’s most famous painter, Wu Daozi. All her works highlight Chinese or Asian-American protagonists and their families. Her essays appear in numerous anthologies including The Best American Essays, and most recently she wrote about China’s Red Guards in 1968: Today’s Authors Explore a Year of Rebellion, Revolution & Change (Candlewick Press).

Stefania Albanese
Stefania Albanese earned her Bachelor Degree in History at Queen Mary University of London, focussing mainly on history of literature and political history. Upon graduating, she decided to develop her knowledge and understanding of  contemporary political history, by entering a Masters programme in International Public Policy at UCL, University College London. During her Masters course, she became interested in educational policies and their effect on the school systems in different countries around the world. She began realising that she wanted to be actively involved in education, and the following year she pursued a course in Mathematical Studies, with the intention of teaching Mathematics to young children. A teaching opportunity arose shortly after her Mathematics course, albeit in a different field, and she became an English literature and language teacher in Italy. She taught kids aged 4 to 16 years old and enjoyed every minute of it, establishing strong relationships with her students and understanding how to offer truly engaging learning experiences both to young children and adolescents.

Megan Kwan-Nixon
Megan Kwan-Nixon teaches the inspirED Reader & Writer Primary Program for Grades 3-5, and is an academic coach at Baker & Bloom. She is also a primary school teacher at Bloom KKCA Academy, an innovative future-wise school specializing in project-based education. Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Megan graduated from York House School and went on to the University of British Columbia to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, as well as her Bachelor of Education. She has been a classroom teacher for over 6 years at both her alma mater York House, and most recently at West Point Grey Academy.
