Given the continued outbreak of Covid-19 nationally and internationally, rapidly changing travel restrictions, and the uncertainty and financial constraints faced by many scholars, ISAN 2021 will be a fully online conference. The conference will occur via Zoom on January 2-3, 2021. Eastern Standard Time will be used for all conference activities. 2020.

ISAN will provide scholars and practitioners of all experience levels an opportunity to present their autoethnographic and narrative projects and to participate in dialogue and sociability with scholars across a variety of disciplines. We invite submissions of papers, performances, and panels to be considered for presentation at the 2021 Symposium. Creative and innovative approaches to autoethnography are encouraged. Submissions might:
• use autoethnography and/or narrative inquiry to engage social, political, cultural, and personal issues;
• address theoretical or methodological aspects of autoethnography;
• interrogate or advance autoethnographic and narrative practices.

Proposals must take the form of an extended abstract (500-750 words). Participants are limited to no more than two presentations. The deadline to submit a proposal is August 15, 2020.

Additional details:

• Proposal acceptances will be sent by October 1, 2020.

• If a proposal is accepted, presenters must record a video of their presentation by December 1, 2020. (Although the video can be any length, we encourage 10-12 minute presentations.) Presenters must then upload the video to YouTube (preferred) or to Vimeo, OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive, and then send the link to Tony Adams (Tony.e.adams@gmail.com). The presentations/links will appear in the official program. After the conference, participants can delete the link/video.

• Registration will be $20 (USD) for all participants. Only those who register for the conference will have access to panels, workshops, and social events.  If a participant is experiencing financial hardship and cannot pay the registration fee, we will have a limited number of opportunities to assist with the conference in exchange for a waived registration fee. To be considered for a registration fee waiver, contact Tony Adams (Tony.e.adams@gmail.com) by December 1, 2020.

• Conference registration will open October 1, 2020. Presenters must register for the conference by December 1, 2020. Presenters will only appear in the official program if they have a) sent the link to their presentation and b) registered for the conference. There is no refund of registration fees after December 1, 2020.

• By December 15, 2020, the program will be made available to all  registrants. Registrants will have at least two weeks to view the presentations (via links). If a registrant is interested in a particular presentation, they should watch the video before the conference begins.

• During the actual conference (January 2-3, 2021), there will be several 45-minute discussion sessions devoted to the video presentations. Each sessions will have a moderator who will begin/end/monitor the session. Participants will not present during these sessions; they have already presented via the 10-12 minute video. Instead, these sessions will be interactive: audience members can ask questions of panelists, panelists can meet other panelists, the moderator can offer insights, etc.

• All presentation links, discussion sessions, and other conference activities will only be available to registrants. However, participants should recognize that registrants could share these links or record sessions without permission. Although we cannot control these unethical practices, we forbid them. If any participant is caught sharing or recording a session without permission, they will be banned from participating in this conference and all future conferences. Unfortunately, if a participant has concerns about online privacy, sharing, and recording, then they should not participate in the conference.
