Four moves to make the funnel work in Wing Chun Kung Fu

While these four moves work for Wing Chun Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do or any kind of martial arts at a short distance, they will actually work for any martial arts system. The techniques are derived from the data in Wing Chun's book by James Yimm Lee. It is believed that this book was written by Bruce Lee.

To configure the techniques that would be done in most Jeet Kune Do schools, hands must be separated at shoulder width with palms facing the attacker. This is a sign of universal peace, 'I do not want to fight', and it is good to try to 'fight without fighting' using this type of movement. The person may not struggle, but if he does, he will find himself 'in the funnel' and will be handled fairly easily.

There are three possible paths that a stroke can follow in this configuration. The first path is through the hands, straight to the face, and the defense here is obvious. Just turn your hips, put your hands on your wrist and elbow, and you'll get a big trap or shot or blockage or whatever. This is the technique that a great teacher like Danny Inosanto can teach you.

If the partner decides to walk around in the outstretched palms, simply step aside and open a high blow and a simultaneous block. This classic gung fu trick comes out of the leg, turns the hips, and can damage the chest. If you don't want to hurt a chest ... slit your throat, this movement is in the form of Wing Chun Chum Kiu

If the attacker tries to turn his fist around the open palms, he falls for the classic jeet kune do technique. Simply switch to the other side, lift an elbow block and start a series of quick beats to the closed body. You may not find this technique in the wooden wall, but it is excellent for pushing an opponent to a corner while hitting it.

If the attacker tries to use his legs, simply move his legs back and push his kicks with his hands and he will realize that he is continuing with a blow. When you move your legs back you will automatically be able to jump. Knowing that there is a high likelihood of a hand attack encourages him to lift his hands as he enters, perhaps even letting his jeet train only by breaking his leg with some of his own kicks.

The point of all this is that as you raise your hands, you establish a path where the attacker must follow. He will walk through the palms, around the outstretched arms or down. Therefore, you know what to do and if you know what someone wants to do, it is that someone is ten times easier to beat.

If you want it to be even more predictable, you have to spread your hands, then he will come into the funnel, bring your hands close and enclose the funnel, etc. In other words, you are actually telling a person what he should do by put your hands. Whether it's wing chun schools, jeet kune training, or whatever, this type of setup is the ultimate to win any kind of battle.
