Thank you for your interest in the Young Men of Excellence Program offered by the Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc.
The Young Men of Excellence Program is a FREE college readiness and career exploration program designed to motivate and guide boys of color, grades 6 through 12,
to explore their interests, skills and passions to make informed choices about their future. Our program works with each scholar to build confidence and skills, develop a plan to pursue the career of their dream and close the opportunity and workforce readiness gaps to expand career pathways and economic opportunities.
The College & Career Academy consists of the following:
=> Career Competency Workshops on the first and third Saturdays from 9:00am until 1:00pm.
=> Academic Tutorial Sessions on the second and fourth Saturdays from 10:00am until 12 Noon.
=> Wellness Wednesdays each week are conversations with scholars to assess their overall well-being, gauge their satisfaction with the Program and gather feedback on their experiences and how to better assist and support them from 6:00pm until 8:00pm through Zoom, calls and/or text messaging.
=> College Conversations on the second Thursday from 6:00pm until 7:00pm on Zoom.
=> Career Conversations on the fourth Thursday from 6:00pm until 7:00pm on Zoom.
=> Social Gathering on the last Saturday from 1:00pm until 4:00pm for fun and fellowship. (*Scholars must have attended Career Competency Workshops, Wellness Wednesdays, College Conversations & Career Conversations for the month.)
Scholars are required to attend all Career Competency Workshops, Wellness Wednesdays, College Conversations and Career Conversations. Academic Tutorial Sessions are optional depending on grades and whether the scholar requires assistance.
Scholars are required to wear masks regardless of vaccinations status. The Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation, Inc., is a
501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization which provides a continuum of
intensive strategy-centered, skill-based and career-focused programs, service,
and mentorship to facilitate academic, leadership and professional development
to prepare boys and young men of color for academic success and the competitive
workforce.
