Community Advocacy and Healing Project has an initiative rooted in culturally proficient and healing as a remedy to natural or human made disasters for people of the global majority (replaces the term people of color) and communities systematically ostracized and oppressed (womayn, children, people able differently, people aging, people of the rainbow village) called Community Restoration Project (CRP). CRP aids in facilitating access to culturally proficient and trauma centered healing opportunities, resources, information, services, and supplies prior, during, and after natural or human created disasters, or any other unprecedented weather conditions negatively affecting communities. CRP was created because of the mistreatment of people of the global majority during the past natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, and/or the poisoning of water like in Flint, Michigan.
It has been stated, reaffirmed, and established that self-care is revolutionary, so Community Advocacy and Healing Project would like to collaborate with healers, sound and art therapists, dance instructors, meditators, yoga instructors, and artist to bring experiences that will teach attendees various forms of honoring and taking care of themselves. We are recruiting people who understand the need to help from radicalized trauma and are experienced with providing spaces for healing from this trauma.
Recently Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas killing thousands and leaving even more homeless. Many people are experiencing loss and mental health concerns, as a result of the traumatic event. It is important to recognize that everyone responds to traumatic events, such as a Category 4 hurricane, differently. The recovery process for some people may be immediate, while others may not begin to process the event until months or possibly years later. We understand that people will move at their own pace to pick up the pieces after a large-scale natural disaster, and we would like to assist bring culturally mindful resources to the Bahamas for people’s recovery process. We are recruiting volunteers to assist provide culturally mindful resources and supplies to aid people during their recovery process. We are seeking healers that are willing to share and incorporate their own healing and self-care activities so attendees understand the goal is obtainable with practice.
If you are associated with an organization with the desire to provide resources are invited to assist provide culturally appropriate resources for people of the global majority, specifically self-identifying womayn, children, people aging, people without homes, and others systemically oppressed. Organizations are invited to select days and times conducive to meeting regarding Restoration efforts.
Collaborators/Volunteers are asked to meet prior to beginning assisting those in need. Volunteer shifts are four hours long and we ask those that are willing to volunteer keep their scheduled shift time. We ask that volunteers commit to at least two weeks for restoration efforts.
We are seeking to recruit people who are willing to show up as their full selves and amazing, to guide others to do the same. If you are interested, we invite you to fill out the form below. Although we are asking for services for free we will have a space for people to provide donations when they signup and attend the experience.
