Curriculum
Adapted from the current 11-week course originally designed by Brit Holmberg, LCSW and Kelin Hall, LCSW in consultation with the Becoming an Antiracist MH Clinician team.

Group practice owners face increasing pressures to "do it right" when it comes to being antiracist. And while there is no one right way, practice owners can build awareness of their own racial identity, implement a liberation mindset in their practice, and recognize how mental healthcare interacts white supremacy culture.

Topics we will cover include: tendencies of white dominant culture, racial identity development, allyship/co-conspirator-ship, tools for interrupting racist ideas/comments in therapy and within organizations, clinical supervision, policies and alternatives to calling the police during MH crises, and internalized racism.

Discussion and activities will support participants to put values into action. Sessions typically include a rotating case study, as well as a brief didactic section, followed by small group processing and whole group discussion around everyday application. Emphasis is on self-reflection, practical application, depth, and growth to support people wanting to unlearn the tendencies of white dominant culture and practice/relate in more liberatory ways.

Participants
This group is designed for white mental health group practice owners who are either newer to antiracist practice or those with moderate experience in this area.  Participants will be asked to read/watch a short article/video weekly to prepare for each session. They will also be encouraged to bring cases and questions to each session for discussion and present a short case using the tools during the final 2 weeks.

Cost*
Early Bird: $350
Regular: $375 after early bird period closes
Price includes 6 IL CEUs (1 ethics and 3 cultural awareness) if all sessions are attended.  We request that participants commit to attending all 6 sessions.

*1/3 of the income generated will support the Treatment not Trauma campaign in Chicago, a BIPOC-led effort to fund a public, non-police MH crisis response and re-open public MH clinics in Chicago. For more info: https://www.collaborativeforcommunitywellness.org/treatmentnottrauma

Brit Holmberg (he/they) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over a decade of experience providing mental health services to a wide array of populations. He is also the co-creator of Becoming an Antiracist Social Worker training and the owner of Brit Holmberg, LLC, a solo private practice.   Brit challenges the false separation between clinical and systems work in order to help advance liberatory frameworks and practices.  He is an active volunteer with the Treatment not Trauma and #StopASWB organizing campaigns.

Sarah Buino (she/her) has dedicated her career to supporting therapists on their journey towards healing and growth. Recognizing the profound impact of creating healthy environments for practitioners, she made the decision to sell her group practice and transition into leadership consulting. Her mission is rooted in the belief that the wellness of therapists directly translates to the well-being of their clients. As a white therapist, she is committed to centering her practice within an embodied social justice framework. She firmly believes that it's essential for us to actively engage in this work to create more inclusive and equitable spaces within the therapy community.
