Emergency Preparedness at The Capes
The Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPC) at The Capes needs your help! After a period of inactivity, recent events - our Labor Day fire scare, for one! - have impressed upon us the importance of having a plan in the event of an emergency or natural disaster. Our EPC has been revitalized with a team of new volunteer members, and we are working hard to develop a comprehensive emergency plan for The Capes and all its members.
Some of the things we've been working on include:

Implementation of the "Map Your Neighborhood" program - a comprehensive guide to be used in the event of an emergency. When disaster strikes, this program guides you through simple steps to follow that will help you to quickly and safely take actions that can minimize damage and protect lives. One of our goals is to have a copy of this program in every home at The Capes.

Investigating local resources for emergency training opportunities

Networking with nearby communities to exchange ideas and establish a communication plan for sharing information during a disaster

Developing recommendations of emergency supplies for each homeowner to have on hand, both in the event of an emergency evacuation (Grab & Go Bags) and should it become necessary to shelter in place for extended periods of time.

Researching ways to help our community AVOID disaster (such as fire prevention/safety) and SURVIVE disaster (such as through implementation of practices to make us more self-sufficient and sustainable).

Here’s where you come in. We can’t do this alone. Our community is only as prepared as our least prepared residents. Please help us to gauge our current level of preparedness by taking this short survey.
