First Responders Academy Application (23-24)
The First Responder Academy (FRA) is designed for students who are passionate about exploring future career options as a First Responder in the areas of law enforcement or fire.  A blended academic mix of online and on campus courses, combined with engaging, experiential learning opportunities designed to develop key competencies for a future career as a First Responder, provide academy students with a learning experience individualized to their interests. NOTE: For the 2023-2024 school year, the First Responders Academy is only open to entering Freshmen and rising Sophomores. Rising Juniors and Seniors should contact the OLO Office for more information.

Online Coursework Requirement:  I understand that the First Responders Academy requires some courses to be taken in an online, asynchronous format.  I further understand that the Freshmen and Sophomore years will require the following online courses, with additional courses required in the junior and senior years:

Freshmen Year:
Health (1 semester)
Principles of Public Service (1 semester)

Sophomore Year:
Criminal Justice (2 semesters/1 year) OR
Fire Tech Level 1 (2 semesters/1 year)

First Responders Fitness Requirement:  I understand that the First Responders Academy requires a rigorous fitness program to prepare for a future as a First Responder.  I further understand that all participants in the academy will be required to participate in this course for four years and that it will meet the physical education requirement.*

The First Responders Fitness Program will consist of a mix of on-campus and online exercises submitted by video.

I agree to take the First Responders Fitness course for the terms I am enrolled in the First Responders Academy.

To receive the First Responders Academy endorsement on your graduation transcript requires 10 hours of experiential learning in Freshmen year and 25 hours of experiential learning in the remaining three years of high school. *

The First Responders Academy has two options for participation. NOTE: Both levels require participation in co-curricular experiential learning activities.

Full Program (Blended Student): Requires a mix of on-campus and online academic courses PLUS online First Responders courses
Reduced Program (Non-Blended Student): Allows for a full schedule of on-campus academic courses PLUS online First Responders courses

The First Responders Academy requires an annual program fee based on the level of program participation (blended or non-blended).  I agree to pay the required fee should I be accepted into the First Responders Academy.
