Due to our litigious society and the dangers inherent in glass, please read and agree to the following Safety Warnings, Instructions and Liability Release.  This is required for purchase.

OWNER’S SAFETY WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF SPINNER TOOL

SAVE THESE SAFETY WARNINGS AND INSTRUCTIONS. Keep these warnings and instructions in a safe place and refer to them prior to every use of the SPINNER TOOL. Failure to follow these warnings and instructions may result in serious personal injuries, including death and damage to your personal property.

Blowing glass is inherently dangerous.  Even experienced professional glass blowers can be seriously injured if safety precautions are not followed and adhered to when working with hot glass. Serious injuries resulting from hot glass include burns, cuts, injuries to eyes, and potentially death. Working with and using the SPINNER TOOL does not make working with molten, hot glass any less dangerous. In fact, using the SPINNER TOOL in conjunction with a cordless drill to spin, twist and pull molten, hot glass is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES INCLUDING BURNS, CUTS, LOSS OF EYESIGHT OR DEATH TO YOU, THOSE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO YOU, AND TO YOUR SURROUNDING PROPERTY.  EXTREME CAUTION SHOULD BE USED AT ALL TIMES WHEN USING THE SPINNER TOOL. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES TO PROTECT YOUR EYES, AND WEAR OTHER APPROPRIATE SAFETY ITEMS INCLUDING FACEMASKS, GLOVES, KEVLAR SLEEVES, AND FIRE RETARDANT CLOTHES FOR PROTECTION. ALWAYS INSPECT THE DRILL, AND SPINNER TOOL PRIOR TO USE, AND DO NOT USE IF DAMAGE IS SUSPECTED.

CAUTION!  This SPINNER TOOL is ONLY intended for advanced glassblowers with experience making twisty cane. DO NOT USE THE SPINNER TOOL IF YOU DO NOT HAVE EXPERIENCE PULLING GLASS CANE.

⚠️ WARNINGS
THIS TOOL IS TO BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH VARIABLE-SPEED CORDLESS DRILLS ONLY. Always follow instructions provided with your cordless drill including Work Area Safety, Electrical Safety, Personal Safety, Power Tool Use & Care, and Operating Instructions.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF THE SPINNER
These instructions are only for the Spinner and don’t explain how to set up a cane pull since this tool is for users who already have this experience.

1. Do not attempt to use this spinner without experience making twisty cane manually.  Twisting cane manually will give you experience to judge how the glass moves as you stretch and twist it, and help you understand how best to safely use this tool.

2. Use a variable-speed, cordless drill on the slow setting. You MUST start slowly and only speed up when you can maintain enough tension in the glass so that it twists and doesn't loop. You can generally achieve the best results with steady drill speed and a long pull duration versus trying to run the drill at high speed.

3. You will have the best results with the following:
 - a thorough, uniform heat in the glass allowing the cane to pull out evenly
 - transferring the mass of glass to the drill punty and drawing the cane out of that mass
 - gentle tension allowing the glass to twist without folding
 - a slow drill speed to begin, then slowly increasing the speed as gentle tension allows
 - a drill punty post that is centered and rigid but has some color (heat)

4. To make the post, your assistant should drop a round cookie (of the appropriate size for the pull) on the marver, then immediately gather and apply another cookie of the exact same size on top.  Once this fresh second gather is added, center the X of the Spinner over this new gather and press down hard, embedding the X into the hot gather.  Adjust center if necessary, then using tweezers, quickly squeeze glass completely over each tine of the X, attaching them securely.  Chuck the Spinner into the drill and ensure it’s secure and tight. Then MAP torch the face of the post to ensure the cane sticks.  This all has to be done fairly quickly so you don’t loose too much heat.

5. After connecting the cane to the post on the spinner, (assuming the gaffer holds the drill during the pull), IT IS CRITICAL that your assistant (holding the punty) pay attention to how much tension is on the glass. While the glass is pliable and twisting nicely, the punty may vibrate gently, but when the glass begins to cool and starts to firm up, the punty will begin to gently torque in their hand.  At this point your assistant MUST warn you it’s "getting tight!” and when the torque increases yell “STOP” so you can immediately stop the drill.  If you don’t stop the drill when the cane begins to torque, the cane will snap, with broken cane possibly flying thorough the air.  Obviously this is a dangerous failure you want to avoid.  Communication can help avoid this.

6. If your cane touches anything while twisting it, you will likely have a weak spot that may break unpredictably.  Stop twisting and start over, or maintain extreme caution and stop twisting when the glass is still quite hot and pliable, thereby reducing strain on the weak spot. A weak spot on twisted increases the chance for the cane to bind, snap, break, splinter and/or shatter unpredictably.

DO NOT PULL, STRETCH OR TWIST WHEN THE GLASS IS TOO COOL. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CANE TO BIND, SNAP, BREAK, SPLINTER AND/OR SHATTER WHICH CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES INCLUDING CUTS, BURNS OR DAMAGE TO THE EYES TO YOU AND OTHERS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY. If the cane breaks IMMEDIATELY remove your finger from the trigger of the drill and point the drill and cane remaining on the SPINNER away from your face and body and those in close proximity to you. DO NOT OPERATE THE DRILL WITH THE SPINNER TOOL AT HIGH SPEEDS.

⚠️ WARNING!! This SPINNER TOOL is intended to be securely anchored to a cordless drill using the drill chuck and is intended to be held by one person who safely controls the speed, tension, and strength of pulling the cane. The cordless drill with the SPINNER TOOL should not be clamped or secured in place in any way in which one person is not holding it and controlling the speed of the cordless drill.

CAUTION! EVEN IF USED APPROPRIATELY, THE USE OF THE SPINNER TOOL CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURIES INCLUDING BURNS, CUTS, LOSS OF EYESIGHT OR DEATH TO YOU, THOSE IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO YOU, AND TO YOUR SURROUNDING PROPERTY. INJURY AND DAMAGE CAN RESULT FROM HOT, MOLTON GLASS COMING INTO CONTACT WITH YOUR BODY OR SURROUNDING PROPERTY OR FROM GLASS SHATERRING OR SPLINTERING WHEN BEING PULLED, TWISTED, AND STRETCHED AND COMING INTO CONTACT WITH YOU, THE GROUND OR SURROUNDING PROPERTY.
