WHO SHOULD APPLY?
This workshop is grounded in the values and the mission of Acts of Matter: to bring together diverse people to enhance each others' experience in life and in dance through sharing, listening, and learning.
We are excited to work with mature individuals with various ranges of experience who have an interest in a deep dive over three days into investigation, self-reflection, rigor, joy, and community. Most (but not all) applicants will have a shared goal of pursuing dance professionally. Mature movers are encouraged to apply.

HOW TO APPLY:
Please read and then apply below.
Similar to previous Focused Studies, Rebecca Lemme will be leading the majority of the experiences. We are excited to be joined by some new and returning guest faculty in the following:
Release
Improvisation
Somatics
Ballet
Process
Reflection and Discussion
More specifics announced soon!
Each day will culminate in a creative process session with me during which all participants will engage in collective making and discussion. The last few workshops have decidedly not led to any kind of performance outcome. As always, we will listen to where the work is leading us, and if a showing becomes of interest we will welcome a limited audience for that. Stay tuned.
*NEW* FACULTY INFO
KEVIN WILLIAMSON leads TOGETHER, a workshop co-taught with Rebecca Lemme inviting participants to come together in various modes of contact and partnering.
MARINA MAGALHÃES leads SOMATIC SABOR, a deeply rooted and sensorial dance practice that invites movers to inhabit the space of sacred play. In this class, dancers will build their listening practice of their bodies and each other through a series of improvisational and choreographic structures that draw from Magalhães's Contemporary Afro-Latin dance practice. Together, we will practice choosing pleasure over perfection, curiosity over fear, and community over competition.
JUSTIN MORRIS leads BOUNCE N’ RELEASE: I feel the most at home when I am with my friends on the dance floor and we are getting our lives, creating a portal to a world otherwise, where liberation and pleasure can be found. This offering hopes to foster a space where we will turn inwards as a collective in hopes of manifesting a sense of release across dimensions; physically, mentally, and spiritually. The offering will build upon and use the improvisational structures and movement practices of twerking, the Feldenkrais method, Bartenieff fundamentals, and ratchet music as a bridge to getting to this multidimensional release for the individual and the collective.
BREE VANZUTPHEN offers SOUL, a yoga based class focusing on breath work and the cultivation of a deeper relationship with the self.
LAVINIA FINDIKOGLU will be teaching SENSE. This 60 minutes Gyrokinesis class is designed to gently awaken the body and invigorate the spine. Moving with rhythm and breath, the Gyrokinesis Methods aims to open energy pathways, stimulate the nervous system, increase range of motion, and create functional strength.
REBECCA LEMME will guide discussion throughout the weekend. She will co-teach TOGETHER and lead RELEASE, BALLET, and PROCESS at the end of each day. PROCESS sessions are opportunities for participants to synthesize the various experiences from the weekend through improvisation while continuing to explore their own artistic curiosities in collaboration with the collective.
