When does MySQL Need Free Pages Without Doing IOs ?
In the blog post Tail Latencies in Percona Server because of InnoDB Stalls on Empty Free List, I mention MySQL needing Free Pages without doing IOs.  I will explain when this happens in a follow-up post, but in the meantime, you can guess which situation I have in mind using this form.  You can already forget about Page-Splits on INSERTs or UPDATEs, or the Change Buffer and the Undo Logs, the situation I have in mind concerns SELECT queries.
