Black History Walking Tours - Summer 2024 RSVP

Black Lives at Cal (BLAC) History Walking Tour RSVP

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You’re invited to participate in a Black History Walking Tour about the Black community at UC Berkeley! This tour was written and designed by long-time staff member and alumna Gia White (‘86). The tour draws from her extensive research about the earliest Black students at UC Berkeley (see "As I Walk These Paths"), a few of our many notable Black faculty members, and the special spaces that Black people have fought to create for Black people on the campus.

The tour will begin at the Koret Visitor Center/Cal Athletic Hall of Fame, Memorial Stadium at 12:00 pm on the specific date, and last for approximately 90 minutes.

Gia White is the administrative director for both Global, International and Area Studies and the Institute of European Studies. Gia White also serves as a steering committee member for Black Lives at Cal. Finally, Gia White would like to extend a special thank you to the Black Studies Collaboratory for funding this project.

Black Lives at Cal is a multi-year initiative to research, preserve, and publicize the legacy of Black people at UC Berkeley. BLAC emerges from a collaboration between the African American Thriving Initiatives and the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues, and is endorsed by the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies. Additionally, BLAC has received financial sponsorships from the Black Studies Collaboratory, the Black Recruitment and Retention Center, the Big C Fund, the Social Science Matrix, the Division of Equity and Inclusion, and the Office of the Chancellor.
