Here are some quick FAQ's that may help you decide if the Coda Mentoring Program would be a good fit for you at this time:
Who can apply for this mentoring program?
Anyone over the age of 18 who has a Deaf parent/caregiver, sibling or close relative (who lived in the home with the person for the majority of their upbringing) can apply for the program.
What would we do in the mentoring program?
Some Codas may want to focus on identity development and gaining
a better understanding of what their wants and needs are (a common issue for
many Codas) - how long that takes varies from person to person. Other Codas may
want to have sessions with their partner so they can gain a better
understanding of how to communicate to their partner about what their
upbringing was like and problem-solve within their shared home. Maybe
communicate their boundaries with friends and loved ones, especially the
beloved Deafies in their lives! (because as many Codas know, setting boundaries
with our Deaf family members is NOT the same as setting boundaries with Hearing
people!)
How much does the mentoring program cost?
Each program and its associated costs are customized for each
Coda's needs and their budget but approximated rates are as follows:
Individual 50-minute online sessions: $120.00
Individual 50-minute in-person sessions: $150.00 (ATL and
surrounding only)
Individual 90-minute in-person sessions: $190.00 (ATL and
surrounding only)
Couples and family 90-minute in-person sessions:
$250.00 (ATL and surrounding only)
Official paperwork, notary, advocacy work, and/or documentation
preparation: $50.00/per hour (requires $200.00 retainer)
I can't afford those rates. Do you have a sliding scale or
scholarship program?
Yes, I do! Please fill out the inquiry form and indicate that
you have a financial need and I will send you the paperwork for my sliding
scale program.
What if I'm a student and can't pay anything at all?
I typically take on two student mentees pro bono - please fill
out the inquiry form and indicate that you are a student over the age of 18 and
I will let you know if I have current spots available.
