The purpose of MHFA training is to build an empowered community united around mental health care by effectively educating organizations to better address mental health issues. In MHFA classes, people get a better understanding of how to recognize and offer initial aid to someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis (or are in an escalating panic situation). Attendees are shown how to ask if a person is distressed, and how to intervene on their behalf. MHFA courses also spell out a clear, five-step action plan to help individuals in crisis connect with the right professionals and peers. The course also covers any community resources available, as access to care is a crucial piece of the puzzle. aMHFA will take place online on Zoom, Tuesday, February 27, 2024 led by Sunny Naughton and Karen Carreira. The course includes 1-2 hours of pre-work through the MHFA Connect Learning Management System, and then a live, interactive Zoom Course from 9AM to 4PM with time for lunch and breaks. Upon completion of the program, all participants will receive a three certification in aMHFA.
